The Mix opened its doors on January 14, 2011 at the Holiday Inn Glenmarie this year. A beautifully chic and stylish place to be seen and heard, The Mix encompassed a fashionable dining experience and a retro bar with live bands and top genre in-house DJs after work hours.
I was lucky to snag an invite by Holiday Inn and Sid to check out the eclectic hot spot recently. Not knowing what to expect, I was flabbergasted at the retro stylish environment when I got there. The Mix makes me feel trendy and want to groove to the music as soon as I entered! J
We adjourned to a private glass enclosed room that was gorgeous and elegant. I met up with a few bloggers such as Choi Yen, Tian Chad, QuaChee; Baby Esty and Yvonne! It was so cool to get to know one another and we shared many drinks and experiences over a nice meal as well.
I’ll let the pictures do the talking here as there is just so much food and drinks we consumed that night. Super long post coming up!
Check out their decors and lightings. There are also outdoor tables to enjoy the night’s cool breeze and TVs in case you need to watch your sports. Love the blue lighted bar with alcohol…I want one for my room!
Live band that night has three ladies crooning lots of mix music tempo to entice everyone.
Many of the wonderful cocktails and mocktails we had that amazing night! Bartender is awesome as her mixes were spot on and well balanced as agreed among the people there that night.
**Phew... enough alcohol, let's get to Food business!
We also enjoyed a fabulous spread of tapas, pizza, pasta and some scrumptious mains. The Mix really showcases a wide variety of many cultures’ cuisine and we loved the adventure!
We sampled six of its Fusion Tapas with excitement.
From left to right, top to bottom:
Vietnamese Herbed Vegetable Wraps is rice-paper rolls with a refreshing mango salad.
Minted Lamb Kofta was savory and accompanied by homemade tomato chutney.
Spinach Pancake was a savory pancake laced with tangy apple-mango chutney.
Golden Calamari Fritters was crisp and golden, served with a pepper mayo.
Golden Crispy Seafood and Yam Dumplings were fried to perfection.
Spiced Chicken Tikka Skewer is my favorite tapas as it was moist and lovely, served with a mint yoghurt.
We also had some appetizers to munch on with our drinks. Lovely bar food to entice us…
Taliwang Chicken was a succulent spiced chicken served in an attractive white basket made from noodles. Full of spices, the chicken pieces went well with our drinks and there was a little cap of lime filled with chicken floss to go with it.
Jalee Kay Kebabs had everyone’s attention immediately. Skewers of minced lamb, served with a spinach dip, were moist and smooth, lending an almost creamy taste to this dish. The recipe was fine tuned by the top management of Holiday Inn! J
The kebab dish was served alongside a warm and fluffy pratha, gently rolled up and dressed with a chutney sauce.
If you adore thin and crisp pizza like me, you’ll love the pizzas here! Localized with Malaysia flavors, these pizzas had everyone reaching for a piece… J
Pizza de Chino was a Chinese inspired pizza loaded with shredded duck, black wood ear fungus, red onions, and cheese beneath a plum sauce base. My favorite pizza as the taste was uniquely sumptuous.
La Sambal Pizza was a Malay version pizza laden with a fiery anchovy sambal sauce, red onions, and cheese.
The pasta here features a fusion of taste and colors. We had two lovely pastas with distinctive taste and flavors.
Penne Spicy with Kam Hiong Sauce was bold and spicy. One bite will hit your taste bud as you can taste the various herbs and spices that ‘fusionized’ this dish… only one of its kinds!
Spaghetti Arabiata with chilies, fresh tomatoes, onions and olives was effortless and yummy-li-cious. Pasta prepared al dente was another point for the chef.
Although some of us were getting full, we persisted on eyeing the delicious looking mains like a hawk eyeing its prey…
Lemon and Herbs Crusted Baked Black Cod was a mouthful name but it certainly filled our mouth with great pleasures… Unanimous agreement from everyone that this was superb!
Carribean Chicken was another successful chicken dish as the perfectly grilled chicken was moist and tasty. Lovely presentation and we wiped this plate clean too… J
The ladies oo and ah with ecstatic smiles when desserts finally showed up. Desserts were concluded with a mixed opinion as some prefer some to others.
Carrot Cake was dazzling in an embellishment of luscious cream cheese frosting, chocolate, strawberry and walnuts. I like this a lot!
Banana Toffee Pudding was moist and jammed with bananas. I am not a fan of bananas but I thought this was not too bad.
Sinful Tiramisu was creamy and smooth with a hint of alcohol, coffee and dark cocoa, finished with a savoiardi biscuit finger. It was so good that we all wanted another round of this dessert. Even the guys love it!
Crème Brulee was straightforward baked custard topped with berries and a caramelized sugar piece.
The ambience that night was fun and everyone was in high spirits, (wink! Wink!) and the company was great too! The Mix proves that everyone from anywhere can come together and enjoy a fabulous time.
Great Music, Retro Ambience, Fabulous Fusion Food and Awesome Drinks, represents The Mix. Head over to The Mix at Holiday Inn Glenmarie to check this out for yourselves… J
