Gearing up for an exclusive fine dining preview, I braved the traffic through the city to reach ISHQ Restaurant and Bar, located at Crowne Plaza Kuala Lumpur, a leading premier business hotel and part of the Inter-Continental hotel chain.
Stepping into ISHQ through its grand winding down stairway certainly makes one feel chic and elegant! The overview overlooking the entrance certainly makes a grand impression with its area over 7500 square feet!
The whole décor itself reflects an elegant fusion of Asian and Western influences. Plush dark comfortable sofas, pristine white table cloths with embroidered table runners, modern lamp shades, intricate wooded carvings of panels and dim lights meld into the décor with grand and discreet elegance. In the middle, there is a man-made water fountain gently contributing to the soft natural ambience!
Grand private rooms dressed in chic and opulent designs were made in thoughts to its infamous guests’ dining experience.
Our lovely set meal began for an individual with great influences of Thai, Vietnam and Indian courses!
ISHQ Vegetable Spring Roll and Cha Tom had a minimal and traditional presentation which combines Thai and Vietnam dishes. Spring Roll was crispy and filled with shredded vegetables while Cha Tom, deep fried prawn quenelles wrapped around sugar cane was bouncy.
Our lovely Tom Yam Chicken Soup came piping hot and the aroma of the kaffir leave was tantalizing. I thought the soup had a great balance of spices and sourness to this but yet it was not spicy. Love the flavors of the soup and we all finished this without any hesitation!
Pomelo and Mango Salad was so pretty in sight. Pomelos are my thing so I personally thought this salad was delicious. The slight sourness with a hint of bitterness added a great texture and flavors to the piquant mango. My other friends thought this was a bit bitter though.
For our main courses, we had a nice chunk of Salmon in Coriander Sauce served with a cashew nut salad. This was surprisingly a good match as the seared salmon went well with the creamy curry coriander sauce. A very refined dish on taste and flavors!
I have eaten quite a few Butter Chicken dishes during my college days and when I saw this on the menu, I was ecstatic. The one here did not failed me as I thought it had the most luscious and thick butter sauce full of spices coating pieces of boneless chicken.
The gravy was very bit as sinful as I poured it over my rice and bread. Yum!!
We also had Yellow Daal served in copper little bucket which is so cute! The aroma is perfumed with the yellow beans and spices which goes well with bread. The version here is fairly thick, hence one can taste the soft creaminess of the beans which is obtained through long simmering.
Thai Stir Fried Kai Lan provided our greens and the vegetables faired average with a good crunch.
Plain Briyani Rice was spiced up long grain Basmatic rice which I thought was a bit dry. Then again, this gave me my excuse to douse the grainy rice with lots of butter sauce and daal… J
Although the Indian Bread came last, it was still irresistible with its hot and fluffiness. Everyone reached for a piece at least to wipe up the lovely sauces.
For desserts, we were then taken back to Thailand where we dined on Mango with Sticky Rice. The glutinous rice topped with a creamy coconut sauce had a great balance of sweetness when paired with the ripe Indian mango.
A lovely Fruit Punch which is the house special blend of fruits. Somehow, this lovely concoction received compliments from everyone at the table!
