It’s Time to Indulge in Prosperity Treasure Pot!
Ok... I guess there is no rule to say that one must only savor the auspicious Poon Choi during Chinese New Year although the festive seasons are definitely a good excuse to indulge in one! Pin Xiang Restaurant is proud to present their version of the prosperity treasure pot filled with abundance of sea and land treasures right now at the restaurant.
Back for more goodies, we gathered for the preview of the lavish offerings of this traditional CNY heritage at Pin Xiang. Savoring Poon Choi is almost like opening up a present at Christmas with layers of goodies unveiled at each level of the pot. The top portion is usually the most lavish and expensive items while the next layer is usually filled with braised ingredients. The braised dishes tend to also stay warm longer so as one slowly savors the various ingredients till the latter.
Heading straight to the pot, Pin Xiang spared no expense but charge all the way in luxury! Offering three choices, two non-vegetarians and one vegetarian, the meaty version also comes in two sizes. As everything is prepared fresh, one needs to pre-order the Poon Choi at least two days in advance. The Poon Choi is available dine-in or take away. The take away Treasure pot uses a quality stainless steel pot for reheating purposes. Booking and Delivery period starts from 01/11/2012 to 24/02/2013.

Featured on our table was the large version of Prosperity Abalone Treasure Pot filled with the goodies! Nestled on top are the opulence sea treasures while the next layers features the layers of duck and chicken while the bottom later has a glorious whole pork knuckle, soft gelatinous fish maw, wobbly pig’s tendons, and other ingredients. My favorites have to be the abalones, dried scallops, golden pearl balls and the spicy sweet sea prawns.
First Class Charcoal Roasted Chicken
Besides the treasure pots, we also savored some signatures and classics. First up was a Pin Xiang signature of First Class Charcoal Roasted Chicken (RM30/RM60). Using corn fed chickens, the chook is leaner for a healthier touch. Marinated in herbs and spices, the chook is slowly roasted over hot coals to produce its signature crispy lacquered skin and tender moist meat. It has a great smoky aroma and tinged with salty flavors with hints of spice notes. Compliments to the chef for serving this with sweet lychees to balance up the savory flavors of the chook!
Stir Fried Spinach and Stir Fried Choy Sum with Bittergourd
After the ecstasy of meat & seafood, we consoled ourselves with some greens. Simple Stir Fried Spinach and Stir Fried Choy Sum with Bittergourd (RM12/RM20) was very much a welcome treat. While the first is decent, the second is my favorite. Sounds a bit weird but the combination of crunchy pickled Choy Sum with tender crisp bittergourd really works. A little salty and a little bitter, both flavors slowly works their addictive way into my taste.
Braised Crab Beehoon
Sshh… this is not in the menu! Chef concocted the Braised Crab Beehoon upon someone’s request and it’s now a favorite among us. Fresh sweet crab flavors are rooted deeply in the soft rice noodles making slurping a requirement for full effect of flavors. Hints of ginger and scallions added more oomph to the dish. Prices depend on market price for crabs. Ask for this from the wait staff if it tickles your fancy!
Do remember to book two days in advance for the Treasure Pots and call for more details. T&C applies.

Tried once. Good but not THAT great. Ultra-expensive...for flamboyant people who would like to flaunt their wealth. I'd just stick to my simple steamboat.
ReplyDeleteThis is so luxury with so many abalone in it!
ReplyDeleteOh....drools....the abalone is looking real tempting....
ReplyDeleteInteresting to combine bitter gourd with pickled choy sum, shall try that next time. I'm not a huge seafood fan but I can see the allure of Pung Choi! :D
