Crab Hut @ Shaftbury Square, Cyberjaya

Load Up on Seafood with Round the World Flavours

Gear up for a feast of seafood at Crab Hut! Hitting the Cyberjaya scene in Shaftbury Square recently, Crab Hut hopes to bring lots of happiness and satisfaction to folks in that area who loves seafood. The offspring of the same owner as Crab Factory in SS2, Crab Hut is a little different because this seafood joint takes on Round of the World flavours in their sauces.

One weekend, we visited Crab Hut with our foodie gang and feasted on a luscious seafood spread worthy of King Neptune’s ransom. Crab Hut is located on level 2 of Shaftbury Square. There are plenty of parking anytime. Crab Hut restaurant looked pretty familiar in décor, with a modern and industrial rustic theme echoing its sister restaurant. We loved the family communal style seating. There are tanks of live seafood at the back where the restaurant kept all their seafood, ensuring diners that they get the best seafood available.

We love the ambiance at Crab Hut as it’s comfy and casual. The ambiance allows diners to simply dine-in with no frills, just honest-to-goodness finger-licking sensations.

The menu is pretty much similar to its sister restaurant but Crab Hut has a unique focus on Comel’s Round the World in 80 Sauces that changes every three months. Seafood lovers will rejoice at the choices and quality offered at Crab Hut. Imported seafood with some premium as well as regular ones are cooked with your choices of sauces and Bag Buddies.

Here’s how it works:
·         Simply choose your choice 1 up to 3 types of seafood, in 300gm or 500gm portion
·         Select your sauce choice from 4 staple sauces or the new Comel's Round the World in 80 Sauces
·         Add in Bag Buddies

For February to April, there are two Comel's Round the World in 80 Sauces featuring Spicy Plum and Asam Pedas! Coming soon are Thai Sambal, Sweet and Sour, Tom Yam, Curry, Jackfruit Curry, Lemak Chili Padi and more…

Japanese Hamaguri Clams in Garlic Butter (RM26 – 300gm | RM39 – 500gm)

Succulent and sweet, these plump clams are worth ordering as these are really so yummy, especially when they are drenched in garlic butter sauce. Do order some Homemade Garlic Bread to soak up the garlic butter sauce...

Spanner Crab (RM17 per 100gm) and Yabby (RM52 - 300gm) in Asam Pedas Sauce

Crab Hut’s Spanner crab is of the larger varieties so there’s lots of meat to savor. Partnering with the delectable Yabby, these were cooked with the special Comel’s Round the World in 80 Sauces of Asam Pedas. Tangy, piquant and spicy, the asam pedas sauce is shiok and definitely addictive!

White Prawns (RM39 – 300gm), Scallop (RM59 – 300 gm), Mussel (RM28 – 300gm) with added Bag Buddies of Corn (RM4.90) and King Mushrooms (RM8.90) in Spicy Plum Sauce.

My favorite sauce between the two special sauces has to be the Spicy Plum sauce. The moreish plum sauce has a solid spicy hit, making the tangy and sweet sauce worthy of every lick on the seafood. We had the sauce with an assortment of prawns, scallops, mussel combo as well as a meat crab and were thoroughly satisfied with the seafood. The sauce was so good, I should ask Crab Hut for a spoon next round for the sauce… they should make this sauce a staple in the menu.

Meat Crab (RM69 and above depending on size and weight) in Spicy Plum Sauce

Meat Crab in Garlic Butter Sauce

If you prefer to taste more natural juices of the crab, go for the meat crab in Garlic Butter Sauce as the buttery garlicky sauce enhances the sweetness of the crab.

Brown Crab (RM17 per 100gm) in Garlic Butter Sauce

Brown crab is also another specialty of Crab Hut. Not many restaurants carry the brown crab, prized for its large meaty sweet flesh. These large fleshy crab is practically perfect for any of Crab Hut’s sauces. We had ours in two sauces, both very different but equally delicious. One is buttery and garlicky with savory unctuous flavour while the other is a spicy and luscious Southern creole sauce.

We sure had lots of fun digging into all the seafood feast with our fingers. Did I mention that there are no cutlery provided at Crab Hut too? Just good ole Mother Nature’s cutlery that is to enjoy our food with our fingers…

Brown Crab in Signature Southern Bang Sauce

Besides feasting on seafood in Crab Hut’s various sauces, there are also plenty of other dishes that one can enjoy. Crab Hut’s menu features lots of Louisiana Cajun cuisine dishes as well as pasta, sandwiches, BBQ, appetizers, rice, soups and more. There is also a new addition of Sashimi added recently.

Salmon Sashimi (RM32.00)

Salmon slices cut to medium thickness on a bed of ice and served with Southern Signature Bang Sauce is divine. One would think that the spicy creole sauce would overpower the salmon but rather, it really gave the salmon another depth of flavours which I really enjoy a lot.

Fried Onion Petals (RM10.90) and Fried Enoki Mushroom (RM8.90)

Great for snacking, order the Fried Onion Petals and Fried Enoki Mushroom. Both treats are great for everyone of all ages. I was particularly fond of the yummy Fried Onion Petals for its crispy sweet notes.

Shallot Rice (RM5.00)

If you must have your rice, the Shallot Rice is sufficiently filling and satisfying. One can also enjoy the rice with all the various sauces from the seafood.

BBQ Spring Chicken in Chamalla Sauce (RM24.90)

We love how Crab Hut tries to cater to everyone’s preference. So if you are not into seafood, fear not, there’s also a delicious BBQ Spring Chicken in Chamalla Sauce served with char grilled corn and mashed potato with gravy. The spring chicken is tender and well spiced up. We loved how juicy and flavourful the chook was.

Crab Hut’s Fried Jambalaya (RM25.90)

I am such a big fan of Louisiana Creole jambalaya. It’s a great one-meal rice dish that is cooked with loads of Cajun spices and seafood. Crab Hut’s version is pretty decent. I enjoyed how the rice is very moist and saucy. I can also taste the spices and seafood essence in the dish. There are also lots of chicken, mussel, prawn and spicy chicken sausage in the rice, making it really hearty and filling.

Stuffed Crab (RM26.90)

Another signature of Crab Hut is the Stuffed Crab. If you are too tired to pick through crabs, order this one. Crab meat filling stuffed into crab shells, fried and glazed with spicy plum sauce, the crabs are also served with French Fries on the side.

Fried Softshell Crab Po’ Boys (RM22.00)

For those with a big appetite, you would definitely want to go for Crab Hut’s Po’ Boys. Po’ Boys are a Lousiana submarine style sandwich usually filled with crispy fried seafood. Crab Hut’s Po’ Boys are filled with crispy Fried Chicken Strips, Fried Prawns, Fried Soft Shell Crab or Fried Oysters. We had their Fried Soft Shell Crab stuffed to the brim with large pieces of crispy soft shell crab, lettuce, tomato, onion and house signature remoulade sauce.

Fried SoftShell Crab Carbonara Spaghetti (RM23.90)

Crab Hut is also serving pastas with seafood. Savor Fried Soft Shell Crab Carbonara Spaghetti, creamy strands of pasta nicely seasoned and goes so well with the crispy soft shell crab. If you prefer more bold flavours, then go for the Spicy Prawn Aglio Olio Spaghetti, a classic garlicky and lightly spicy pasta served with sautéed prawns. Both dishes are served with thick cut fries and coleslaw.

Spicy Prawn Aglio Olio Spaghetti (RM25.90)

There are plenty of juices and icy blended drinks. We savored Red Apple & Strawberry Blend (RM8.90) and Pineapple Lemonade (RM8.90) but we also spied other enticing beverages such as Ice Blended Bandung, Orange Mojito, Pina Colada, Rose Fruit Punch and more.

The menu has lots of others dishes and we really barely savored half of it. There are also Southern Chicken Waffle, Gumbo, BBQ Crab or Yabbies, Bayside Platter and Crab Hut’s signature of The Big Bang Theory, a heavy weight seafood bucket that feeds at least 8 diners or more.

Catch the Red Lobster Promotion if you are a fan of the king of crustacean available for a limited time only. For lunch, diners can also enjoy their lunch trays specials of meat and seafood. And if you still have room for desserts, there’s always Beignets, a Louisiana classic dessert!
